The Leading Schools of the Future (LSOTF) Summit will take place on October 20, 2026, the day before the 2026 Schools of the Future Conference. The summit will convene leadership teams from Hawaiʻi's Public, Private, Parochial, and Charter Schools.

Leading for Pedagogies of Voice

Facilitators: Shane Safir and Dr. Sawsan Jaber

Overview: Grounded in the best selling book Pedagogies of Voice: Street Data and the Path to Student Agency (Corwin Press, 2025), this workshop invites educational leaders to reimagine teaching and learning through the principles of agency, belonging, and instructional transformation. Participants will explore how the PoV Agency Framework guides leaders toward authentic, systemic transformation rooted in student voice. Drawing on critical pedagogy and culturally sustaining practices, the session helps learners examine how schools can cultivate environments where both students and educators engage in 8 Pedagogies of Practice, rooted in the four domains of Agency: identity, belonging, inquiry, and efficacy. Through interactive dialogue, student voice artifacts, a micro-coaching demonstration, and applied learning, participants will develop strategies to center student voice, disrupt inequitable systems, and position schools as ecosystems of care, creativity, intellectual development, and radical love. Leaders will leave with actionable tools for designing inclusive curriculum, developing educator agency, leading for belonging, and implementing structures that translate voice into lasting institutional change by doing the heartwork needed in schools today.

Outcomes:

  • Experience joy and creative engagement through active and engaged learning.
  • Apply the Pedagogies of Voice framework to center student and adult agency and belonging in our school communities.
  • Identify and support teachers to notice, name, and interrupt 10 Toxins that silence student voices and enact the 10 Ways of Being that awaken it.
  • Support leaders to design adult learning experiences using the Agency Framework--Identity, Belonging, Inquiry, and Efficacy—as guiding domains.
